As well as chiropractic is known in the world, when you think of chiropractic most people think of the bones of the spine, and how a chiropractor moves the bones and sometimes there’s a cracking or popping sound.

Hopefully most of you know that at the Happy Spine, we focus on the nervous system: the brain, spinal cord and nerves. The nervous system is the electrical system of the body and NeuroSpinal Optimization seeks to bring balance and energized health to the nervous system and ultimately the person.

If you think of the nervous system like it’s the electrical system of your house, you’ll have wires running everywhere: outlets, various appliances (some need thicker wires like the stove and dryer), all the lights, the heating and cooling systems and other specialized features such as a sound system and internet.

After I graduated from Chiropractic school many moons ago:), I lived in Vermont for about 6 months. I’m not sure how the grid is these days, but back then, we used to experience “brown-outs”, times when the lights wouldn’t go out completely. They would flicker and dim for a while, the TV would sputter. During a brown-out, the house was getting less than optimal electricity. This is what it’s like in the body when there’s a disturbance in the electrical conductivity of the nerves, spinal cord and brain.

You may experience intermittent brown-outs, whether it be your muscles, digestive organs, brain, liver, any body tissue. If these tissues don’t have the proper nerve supply, they run at less-than optimal levels. If that occurs for a long enough time, there can be breakdown leading to numbness, arthritis, constipation, and muscle weakness.

There is also the situation where you can have too much electricity travelling to the tissues, such as when there’s an overload on your house’s electrical system. In the house we tend to have power bars and circuit breakers that can save an appliance or outlet from over-heating.

With too much electricity in the nerves, you can have secondary conditions like muscle spasm, lack of flexibility, and an increased sensitivity to pain.

The health of our nervous system is essential especially when you consider the impacts on more sensitive tissues such as the organs.

Just like when you have an electrician come to adjust the circuitry in your house to make sure everything is properly working, at the Happy Spine we can measure and adjust the nervous system to make sure there is proper flow over the nerves to all the tissues to ensure optimal form, function and adaptability.
