There is a vast difference

Dr. TonyNSA

Lola, a prospective patient came in for a consultation the other day. I should note that in most clinics, especially chiropractic clinics, a consultation really means an examination. I do things a little differently because I’ve learned over the years that there’s no point in starting a relationship without first seeing if both parties are on the same page.

So the consultation at the Happy Spine is a conversation, where there are no hidden agendas; just an open discussion of a prospective patient’s health status and any potential assistance that we can provide.

During my conversation with Lola, she indicated to me that she’s looking to have less low back pain and less tension in her shoulders. I shared with her how I work and she told me that she was looking for something exactly like that.

And when I asked her why she was looking for that specifically, she said that she wanted more than just less pain and tension. She said that she wants to feel agile; she wants to be able to keep up with her four year old.

I took the opportunity to say that there is a big difference between just surviving, just managing and actually thriving. Surviving and managing is like treading water, you can do it for a long time and still be alive. But we all deserve a better life than just keeping our heads above water.

Don’t get me wrong, survival is key in everyone’s life. Everyone has had to do it at one time or another. But to take this short term strategy and apply it to the length of our lives robs us of the time we have and the quality of that time as well.

Feeling vibrant is not the same as “not feeling any pain”.

What’s more, modern science continues to make connections between the quality of our lives and our physical and mental health. There is increasing evidence that we can create better health by optimizing our environment and how we respond to that environment.

Could it be that by improving our experience of life, becoming more vibrant and resilient leads to better physical and mental health? That seems to be a common experience at the Happy Spine.
