I was talking with a friend recently about the ongoing troubles in Ottawa, and how he’s been feeling sad, frustrated, angry and helpless.
Sometimes we may feel like curling up into a ball. Or sometimes we may feel like punching a hole in the wall. Our bodies can feel so full of emotion at times, it can feel overwhelming.
With all of these feelings and emotions swirling around inside of us at a chaotic and frenetic pace, what if we were to let go of the label of “anger” or “sadness” or “anxiety” and just feel the energy?
All emotions are energy in motion. If you don’t allow them to move inside you, your immune system and quality of life will suffer. Rather than trying to figure out where the emotion is coming from, you could just feel it and trust that your body will know what to do with it.
Rather than trying to understand the emotion, we could channel the energy into something more productive or purposeful.
If we don’t focus on the label (the name of the emotion), we don’t have to assign blame and we don’t get caught up in the role of a powerless victim; No drama, just a conscious claiming of your own energy.
