Health and prosperity is what we wish for ourselves and for others as the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve. It has become a time of reflection: looking back at the year that has passed and looking forward to a new year of change.
For most of us what underpins this reflection is taking perspective and our continuous search for meaning. It’s only at these few times such as New Year’s or birthdays that we take a broader perspective. Otherwise for most of the year we spend our days creating a life that is based on the past.
I hope that in the previous several articles about health, that I’ve been able to sum up that glowing physical health, as well as our emotional and mental health, is a result of engagement and meaning.
If we are not engaged in our health, then we’re leaving it up to everyone else and everything else (our environment) to determine it for us. And if we do not or cannot find meaning in our day to day lives, then what are we left with? The why (meaning) and the what (health) are keys to a fulfilled life.
When you look into the future, what would you like to see being different? What have you been putting off for far too long? I said to someone in the office the other day that if you take the time to look, there are many things that we not only put up with in our lives; we don’t even notice them being there anymore.
It could be the sink in the bathroom that jiggles, or that book that you never take time for, or the hobby that you never get to, or the uncomfortable chat. All these things drain us of energy. Some may just be a trickle, some may be a gush, but they all add up to drain our energy and to make our lives feel worth less.
I invite you to take a broader perspective on your life and on your health RIGHT NOW. And to start creating your life based on the future, not the past. What would you like to see for yourself in 3 months, 6 months or a year? How about 5 years?
You could say that since no one knows when they’re going to die, you could do all this planning and not see any of it come to fruition. And I would agree with you. However, if you’re not creating your life based on the future that you want, then you’re creating your life based on your past, day after day, like in the movie “Groundhog Day”. In this case your future becomes your past.
To help support you in creating a life that is based on a compelling future, Dr. Joe and I have set about creating a number of opportunities for you. The first one is a live discussion on Zoom, coming up this Wednesday, February 16th from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
There is no charge to attend this Zoom call. And anyone can join. To access this zoom call, please contact the office. We hope that you can join us!
